As another summer draws to a close
so do's the UK festival scene, and what a way to
bow out. Over the few years that Creamfields has
been running since its beginnings at the Matterley
Bowl NR Winchester now the home of Homelands, to
its current UK residence in Liverpool Creamfields
has always been able to deliver the goods.
With much talk this year over the finances of Cream,
it was time that the music and people associated
with this corner of the world did its talking and
boy did they ever. My first visit to Creamfields
in Liverpool and one that will stay with me for
a long time and one hard to beat.
Picture 40,000 like minded people up for a good
time, no hassle's just smiles and stomping feet
to the beats laid down by numerous high profile
DJ's delivered by heart stopping sound systems and
visual effects that would put the most glamorous
nightclub in the shade.
We arrived later into the proceedings and thus were
unable to buy a line-up guide, which at first hindered
our search for our favourite artists. However this
in the end became a blessing. Stumbling around the
site from arena to arena transfixed on a variety
of beats and visuals this became quickly a lucky
dip. Who were we going to see if in deed you could
gain entry to the packed arenas.
On our travels late on we converged on the main
Cream arena to find a flash from the past an upbeat
trance session. With our position in the cramped
arena we were unable to view the DJ and thus we
were left to enquire from a younger member of the
crowd who was currently entertaining the passionate
crowd. An energetic response informed me "
Tiesto". In all honesty if I had known before
entering the arena I may have not entered however
I was happily surprised and thankful that I had.
Later on we found ourselves in the Subliminal arena,
this time with an enthusiastic Erik Morillo, and
accompanying female vocalist. This set pretty much
summed up the whole of the event, as the atmosphere
was everything you would want from such an event.
Erik dropped in Crystal Walters (gypsy women) and
the crowd was thrown in to ravenous sway of waving
arms, stomping feet and singing voices from all
around. Man did this set rock, one of those moments
when you could look back and say, "I Was There".
The two big events this year fell at the start and
the end of the dance festival calendar and produce
two glittering displays of the dance music scene.
Creamfields caters for the glitzy fun filled clubber,
with an audience of friendly faces and smiling souls.
Creamfields
once again has stolen the show, no better way to
close on an eventful summer. With huge sets from
the likes of Underworld, Faithless, Paul Oakenfold
and Hernan Cattaneo, the only question now is how
do they better that? |
