Frantic is a name quickly becoming synonymous for well-organised events, great venues, fantastic music, and top rank DJs. The much anticipated, Frantic is 5-Hard House Academy event was no exception.

Saturday evening began with a mixture of big-named DJs from a widely represented conglomeration of the UK's top labels. Juxtaposed in an incredible venue filled with lights, sound and encapsulating video screens, this evening of hard house raving was overflowing with excitement (and unfortunately overflowing with a bit too many spangled-up people wandering aimlessly or attempting to dance on a very crowded dance floor).

The musical tone set by Frantic this evening was much harder than usual. Each DJ fed upon each other to progressively increase the mind-throbbing beat of typical hard house music to what can only be described as a positively militant sound that left toes tapping in the taxi ride home.

I have personally never heard any of these DJs play tunes of this hard nature in any club before. For, Andy Farley this must have been a special treat, as he got to return to the roots of his beginning "Harder-Faster" DJ days. Many clubbers appreciated this welcome change to the typical uplifting hard house/hard trance sound that is most often connected with the Frantic name. However, some clubbers purchased their tickets in anticipation of the usual Farley and Tidy Boys sound and were instead delivered the contrary. The harder pulsating sound was a nice break from the norm but by the end of the evening I think many were left longing for an uplifting sound to break the monotony. However, Farley dropped in two classic Lab4 tunes showcasing his excellent taste and left the crowd no doubt pining for the Timeless Bank Holiday event that Frantic is holding next.

One thing is for certain. Everyone in the crowd could appreciate the great venue, chill out area, well-selected music, eye pleasing visuals and quality sound system that contributed to the evening. The only real complaint out of the evening was the size of the crowd, the length of the queues at the loo and that the rooms were too brightly lit to fully appreciate the visuals that were on offer.

While I will certainly wait in anticipation of Frantic's next event, I will also look forward to hopefully hearing the more typical hard house sound that personifies Tidy, Nucleuz, and fellow camaraderies.
