Saturday, March 29,
2003 is a day that will live in infamy for this
child of the beat! This evening began with a personal
interview with the Mistress herself, Lisa Lashes
and concluded at Extreme Euphoria at Turnmills.
Lisa Lashes is a superstar DJ who has made quite
the name for herself. Her tracks are excellent.
But, it is her boisterous persona, breasts, hair
color and piercings that have made her infamous
across the industry. I had the pleasure of sitting
down and interviewing her and was shocked to see
how sweet and surprisingly normal she is. (The superstar
even makes a habit out of frequenting the bingo
hall on during the week for entertainment. Now that’s
grounded for ya!)
Lisa was scheduled to headline the Extreme Euphoria
night at Turnmills in London. Euphoria is a night
most commonly associated with Dave Pearce. Because
of this, many serious clubbers will stray away from
this night afraid of a cheesier feel to the trance
music. They shouldn’t.
Euphoria nights are what first pulled me into dance
music and always deliver what is promised…Euphoria!
In this case, it was Extreme Euphoria that was on
the menu. And the clubbers there were definitely
ready to eat it up!
Euphoria nights, always entice the crowd to abandon
their drinks and just dance their arses off. So,
in my opinion, it requires a venue with much more
room to move. Turnmills does not offer this in the
same way that Heaven does. (Precisely the reason
why I’m heading to Euphoria nights at Heaven,
which is the usual venue from now on!)
Extreme Euphoria tonight was meant to be a full
on display of the harder side of Euphoria lead by
the Mistress of Hard Trance herself. Lisa Lashes
played a three-hour long set which positively raised
the roof. The punters gathered to worship their
goddess and crammed tightly into one room to bounce
as best they could.
The only drawback to this fantastic set was the
announcement made by Miss Lashes at the conclusion
of her set to a crowd (who had paid over £10
each and queued in to see her) of “Thank you,
this is The Gallery and you guys are wicked!!!”
Now, some may realize that she is a very busy gal
and constantly on the go from club to club. However,
when you are the headliner and the night is called
Extreme Euphoria and many of your albums are called
Extreme Euphoria, the crowd expected a little more
and won’t easily forget that cock up.
The club was set up with three rooms: Main Room,
Best of Euphoria and Old School Euphoria. No matter
what time of the night you entered any room the
vibe was positively contagious. The DJs were all
well chosen and each carefully selected the right
combination of pounding classics as well as tremendous
new tracks that constantly kept the feet in motion
and the glow sticks moving.
All music aside, a comment must be made about the
lights! The lights in the main room in particular,
seemed to stay in constant pace with the music.
When the crowd reached for the lasers, they would,
in turn, hover close to their fingers making the
most amazing sights I’ve seen in a club in
a very long time.
All in all, it was a top night and highly recommended
for those who need a break from the typical unpredictable
trance night that we have all become accustomed.
Euphoria nights have never let me down and now that
it’s been given a bit of an updated facelift,
it shouldn’t be missed!
