Trance has been enjoying somewhat of a renaissance in Dublin city over the last year, with some of 2004's top trance tunes being produced in Ireland's capital. With 2005 expectd to be even bigger, it was inevitable that Dublin would, at last, start getting some quality trance nights to go with the quality tunage coming out of the city. The first big night of 2005 arrived last Friday night in the Temple Bar Music Centre, were Matt Hardwick made his first apperance in Ireland of 2005, with support coming from Luksta and Dublin stalwart Al Redmond.

We arrived at around midnight to find the Temple Bar Music Centre filling up nicely. After a quick drink in the side bar, we made our way in to the main room to find Al Redmond warming up the half full, but enthusiastic crowd. It was noticable from when we entered the main room that the sound system wasn't going to do the night justice, as we found ourselves able to speak without having to shout, always a bad sign. The crowd didn't seem to mind though, and things started picking up with Emass - Seek You going down a storm. He continued to build it after that, and Tiesto's latest offering, Ancient History really started building up some momentum to the night, even prompting an impromptu playing of an air-trumpet from Mr Redmond. He finished off with Marcos - Just For A Day, the latest offering on Vandit, which set things up nicely for Matt Hardwick to take over.

Matt Hardwick was introduced just after 1, but another noticeable aspect of the night, which unfortunately carried on right throughout the night, was the fiercely over the top MC, who probably should never have been there in the first place. He constantly heckled over the tunes, and seemed intent on harrassing Matt Hardwick as he mixed. But he got on with it as best he could, starting off with John O'Callaghan - Mercury, a monster on A State Of Trance, and typical of the quality Trance coming out of Ireland at the moment. He mixed Ark In The Sky on Discover Records into that, and the night was starting to live up to the potential that it had promised, as we were really now starting to get into our stride. Things continued to go well with Restricted Motion, a collaboration between John O'Callaghan and Brian Kearney, really getting things going.

But the Temple Bar Music Centre was only around three quarter's full and with the sound system being nowhere near loud enough, any dip in the tunes could have proved fatal. This nearly happened when Matt Hardwick went through a spell of playing some slow vocal tunes and the atmosphere started to dwindle. Thankfully though this didn't last long, and things soon got going again with Signum's excellent remake of their own First Strike getting things back in order. It continued on the up from then and Tiesto's mammoth mix of Adagio for Strings soon had the crowd on their toes again. An inspired final tune from Matt Hardwick, the classic Everyday from Agnelli & Nelson, finally brought us to the peak we had craved all night, and ensured the night ended on the highest possible note.
