Cream at Amnesia was one of the events that I was looking forward to the most during my adventures in Ibiza this year. On arrival at the club I was greeted by some of the friendliest door staff and security that I have ever met in Ibiza. Luckily for me, I was issued with a photographer pass, which allowed me to take some great photos of the event (check out the photo gallery). Amnesia usually has a ‘no cameras’ rule, so be warned if you plan to go there with one.

Amnesia is one of my favorite clubs on the island. The crowd is always up for it, the sound quality is awesome and it always looks great. I was hoping that it hadn’t changed too much from my last visit a few years before. As soon as I walked in the sound hit me. Crystal clear beats were being pumped out in the terrace, courtesy of ‘Mixmag’, who were hosting it on this occasion. The first thing that struck me was the laser… Wow!!! It was being reflected from a giant mirror ball, which created an amazing effect over the entire room. It looked as though thousands of grebe fireflies were swarming over the crowd. There was already a large group of dancing clubbers in front of the DJ booth, warming the floor up for the night ahead. I walked up the stairs to the balcony for a better view. The room looked truly amazing. Giant illuminated dragonflies were suspended from the ceiling, hovering above the crowd, which seemed to be increasing in size by the second. Huge projection screens at either end of the room were keeping clubbers visually stimulated, whilst multi-colored LED strobes pulsated to the beat of the music. I was impressed!

It was time to venture in to the main room to see what treats were waiting for us. As we walked through the doorway there was an enormous cheer from the crowd, which had already virtually filled the room. Everywhere I looked people were dancing. I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t already dancing like a lunatic. For Ibiza, it was still very early, so I quite very surprised to see that energy levels were already at maximum. No chance for warming up then, it was obvious that this was a case of heading straight for the middle of the dance floor and getting involved!

Adam Sheridan was certainly getting the crowd moving with a fine selection of uplifting tracks. Looking around at all the smiling faces, I could tell that I wasn’t the only one who was enjoying his choice of tunes! Suddenly I heard a familiar sound. The ice cannon was warming up! This is what ‘Amnesia’ is famous for. A gigantic blast of dry ice swiftly hit the dance floor, almost knocking us sideways. My vision was totally blinded by a thick white mist that engulfed the startled crowd. I had forgotten what an amazing sound that machine makes. It is a noise that you will never forget! As the freezing cold mist disappeared, it revealed an entire dance floor of startled clubbers, all with the same expression of shock on their faces. We had all just experienced something that is virtually impossible to describe in words. I’m sure that most of you would have heard the unmistakable sound of a laughing gas canister being dispensed in to a balloon. Try to imagine hearing this sound, multiplied by ten, whilst being pelted on the head by a gigantic fire extinguisher filled with dry ice. This is the closest way that I can find to describe it. It is one of those things that simply must to be experienced to be believed. The main room has several very large, multi-leveled podiums, which we decided to take full advantage of. It makes a room so much more interesting when everyone in a room is dancing at different heights. The guy dancing next to me turned and said something in a language that I didn’t recognize. It didn’t really matter though, because the huge grin on his face said it all. He grabbed my hand, thrust it in to the air and started to yell with excitement as a huge, euphoric breakdown began. This was one friendly crowd! I looked around to see people smiling at each other, shaking hands, hugging and some were even kissing. The atmosphere was simply electric.

Next up was Marco V, who managed to step up the pace and deliver some harder beats, while maintaining the same uplifting vibe. Again, the crowd were loving every minute of it and it was starting to look like it could be quite hard to drag ourselves away from what was shaping up to be an amazing set.

After a good stint of dancing up on one of the large podiums, it was time to head to a bar to replace lost fluids. We decided that it would be a good opportunity to check out what was happening back in the ‘Mixmag’ terrace. As we walked through it was clear to see that the party was in full swing. Sebastian Leger was hammering out the beats and the room was, quite simply, ‘going off’. As a new track began to emerge from the last, I realized that I recognized it to be ‘Mars’, produced by the very man who was standing behind the decks. I knew that this track would send the dance floor in to frenzy, so we headed straight for the middle. After an hour or so had past, I remembered my original plan, which was to head towards the bar for a drink.. It was proving impossible though to drag myself away from the amazing set that was being played. I decided that drinking would have to wait, as this was something not to be missed. Sebastian Ledger certainly knows how to keep a room busy!

Next up on deck duty was a man who needed no introduction, D Ramirez. This man has been responsible for some of the biggest tracks around over the last two years. I was curious to know what he had in store for us, as I had not yet had the pleasure of catching one of his DJ sets. Following on from the last few hours was going to be hard, but he did a great job by supplying a pumping selection of filthy electro. As I was expecting, a few of his own creations found their way in to the set, which were received with loud eruptions of cheering from the crowded dance floor. A quick glance at my watch and I realized that the main event was about to begin back in the main room.

We found our way to the middle of a packed main room, just as Eddie Halliwell stepped up to the huge balcony, upon which the DJ booth is situated. This has to be one of the best DJ booths in the world. Just below it sits, what must be, the largest graphic equalizer know to man. It really is an incredible thing to see. Above the DJ booth is a mirrored ceiling, running the entire length of the balcony. This is perfect for all the tech heads out there, who like to be able to see exactly what the DJ is doing up there.

Eddie launches straight in, his tracks having to compete in volume with the enormous cheers of delight from a packed room. Having not heard Eddie play for a couple of years, in fact since I played before him once at a club back in England several years ago, I was very interested to know what his track selection would be like these days. He certainly did not disappoint. Eddie Halliwell is one DJ who you can guarantee will always get a crowd jumping, and he did just that. It was hard to tell who was enjoying it more, Eddie or the crowd below him. With a huge smile on his face and his hands waving in the air constantly, Eddie’s energy levels were rising by the minute. To top the set off, Eddie climbed up on to the edge of the balcony, his feet either side of the mixer and began to clap along to the music with the crowd. It was great to see a DJ enjoying the night as much as the people down on the dance floor. A great way to end a great night!

Cream did not disappoint. Amnesia is the only place to head to on a Thursday night in Ibiza. If you leave Ibiza without going to Cream, then you have defiantly missed out!
