Ministry is on fire just now. It’s so good. Is there a better room than the box room anywhere in the country?

This was the launch of Gabriel and Dresden’s Toolroom Knights mix album, with D Ramirez, Mark Knight and of course, Gabriel and Dresden.

Since the last time I went to Ministry, a large platform has been put in the middle of the dance floor, and when it is packed it looks like a wave or sea of people; very nice. The room became very busy by about 1 am as D Ramirez was half way through his 2 hour slot. I suppose you could call it a warm up set, and I thought he did an excellent job, playing tunes that encouraged people to dance but nothing too big too early; a proper warm up, leaving the room nicely filled up an ready for action!

The bar room was also very busy where Richard Dinsdale was playing, but we were mostly in the box room, where you are warned on the way that there you are about to be exposed to excessive noise levels, and they aren’t kidding!

Toolroom boss Mark Knight hit the decks from 2-4 am, which was again superb. The room was rammed, the lasers were going crazy, the sound was booming, the tunes were excellent (the sort of house you’d expect from Toolroom) and the clubbers were having a great time; couldn’t ask for more.

The superb Gabriel and Dresden came on from 4 till close and continued much in the same manner as what had came before; progressive, tech, electro, minimal house and techno. I’d never see these guys play before but I have been a huge fan of their productions for years and was impressed. Josh Gabriel was on his laptop doing some stuff with Ableton while Dave Dresden was more conventionally behind the decks; not exactly sure what was going on but the tunes were ace!

I’ve already heard the new album and it is excellent, very well crafted and a good indication of the sort of tunes you’d hear at Ministry if you’ve never been. They played a few from it tonight, such as their own remixes of Colombian Soul and The Killers.

It was still very busy at 6.30 am when I left, God knows what time they eventually stopped! After having been in Ibiza this year, it is quite difficult for any club to even come close to what you witness at Space or Amnesia but I think Ministry comes very close; that’s how good it is. You genuinely get a sense of excitement when you stand above that packed room and just watch, with cutting edge DJs and house music. Ok, I’ll stop there! The birthday on 17th November with Dubfire looks unmissable now.
