Bio: My
first musical encounter was when I was about 5,
I got a big red Sony Walkman with orange headphones
for Christmas … WICKED. I remember taking
a long trip to Newcastle in my Mom & Dads VW
Caravanette and was engrossed in a free tape from
a Kellogg’s Cornflakes box, the only tune
I can remember is The Police’s – Walking
on the moon … HEAVY. My next memory is of
buying – BreakDance the Movie's Soundtrack
on vinyl, which I still have today and includes
Kraftwerk’s – Tour de France …
RUDE.
Southport Weekender is where I was first introduced
to one of my hero’s, Gilles Peterson, he was
playing Roy Ayers – Running Away, with a room
full of people dancing in synchronisation, I was
hooked. I then started to graduate through different
music genres finally resting on Deep/Jackin’
House and gained my lifelong admiration for Chicago’s,
Derrick Carter, who I travel the length and breadth
of the country to see at such clubs as The Bomb
and The End.
As my interest in Dance music grew, so did my passion
for vinyl. After a secession of parties, I got my
first official DJ gig at the Sobar, where I then
when onto play regularly. I then graduated to their
private members bar, The Kadjo Lounge, where I mixed
up MAW type house music, Disco and Classic’s.
I have my own night called Culture at Poppy Red
which takes place every Friday, with various guest
DJ’s. It has been running nearly a year and
is very successful; we have had some excellent parties.
I have also started a new underground club night
with a collective of people called Jigsawmusic,

I was recently a guest DJ at The legendary Medicine
Bar where I played on Different Drummer’s
Sound System at their Leftfoot Night alongside Adam
Regan, I played the prime slot in front of four
hundred people. I have also DJ’s along side
Digs n Whoosh, Charles Webster, I.G Culture, Domu
and soon Norman Jay @ the Medicine bar. Woody |
