Details: As Hed Kandi continue to take their sensational sound to the four corners of the globe; and following hard-on-the-heels of their record-breaking White Isle summer residency at El Divino, the huge Summer Mix 2007 and the retro-stylings of Back To Love, the UK’s finest purveyors of sexy and soulful dance music turn their attentions to one of the foundations of their identity; Disco Heaven.
Deeply cherished by the Kandi faithful, Disco Heaven turns up the club heat as the nights draw in with a wicked brew of glittering club shakers. Moved from its usual spring berth for an autumnal launch, those in the know are salivating at the prospect of this latest edition and, as is customary, Hed Kandi have stepped-up with their greatest collection of unmixed full length tracks to date.
The majestic Sessomatto get things underway with a panache rarely matched on dance music compilations, as grandiose strings give way to an addictive, stabbing groove that underpins Carolyn Harding’s fulsome flow. Ijah bring Kim English’s ‘Nitelife’ bang-up-to-date, whilst Warren Clarke featuring Shena’s ‘Lifting’ turns up the jazz-funk factor with club smashing energy. The blithe rhythms permeate the atmosphere as Vee Scott, Jonni Black Vs Una Mass and Pleasure Seekers pile on the vivacious Disco pressure. Barbara Tucker’s ‘Love Vibrations’ gets a filthy filtered make-over from Josh Harris and Kandi favourite Bob Sinclar’s guitar-powered ‘Champs Elysees Theme’ receives a touch of refix love from Jamie Lewis before the enormous M&S Presents Starvue ‘Let The Music Spill’ – a shimmering cover of the Shannon classic - closes CD1 in the style in which it began.
Living up to the first instalment, disc two comes out of the blocks raring to go with Milk & Sugar’s high-octane bass riffing mix of Candy Williams’ ‘Have It All’. Latin vibes come to the fore on Raul Rincon’s Mi Amor, as Carolina Escolano’s vocal takes centre stage, whilst the mirrorball revolves to a cavalcade of cool cuts from Henrik B, Hernandez Vs DJ Tyo and Dave Armstrong. Alan Braxe & Kris Menace’s blissful synth masterpiece ‘Lumberjack’ segues into a fitting denouement from AC Soul Symphony, whose ‘The Kind Of Love’ gets a chic disco blend from the masterful Joey Negro.
Showcasing the Kandi crew’s effortless party aesthetic, Disco Heaven is yet another triumph. |
