Details: Stereo Sushi, Hed Kandi’s cool kid-sister label, reaches its landmark tenth release with another superlative set of the finest hi-fidelity house music, fresh from the deep! Showcasing the crest of the most recent Soulful House and US Garage waves, Stereo Sushi’s tenth edition sees them returning to their traditional fishing waters to collect together the finest raw ingredients, for two courses of delectable, unmixed, dance-floor appetisers.
Kicking off their trawl through the most succulent of sounds, Stereo Sushi serves up a pure Garage treat with the Wigged Out Vocal mix of India Arie’s ‘I Am Not My Hair’, before diving headlong into some seriously Soulful House morsels. Sebastian Leger’s ‘Hypnotised’, which has been smashing it on Hed Kandi’s floors across the land in recent weeks, gets an exclusive DJ Spen mix to take it even higher, whilst Hed Kandi’s latest signing Ron Gelfer makes his presence felt with the bumping ‘Your Beat Sounds Like’. The Jamie Lewis House Cut of Djaimin Feat. Crystal Re-Clear ‘Give You’ sees the jackin’ grooves come to the fore, before the mouth-watering selection comes to a close with a Yoruba Suite makeover of Ben Westbeech’s deeply funky ‘So Good Today’ and Black Magic’s landmark release Freedom (Make It Funky).
Following up the scintillating soulful selection, the second course sees the Sushi crew sharpening their Hochos to bring out the US Garage and Gospel flavours. Opening with a belter from Jada, DJ Spen makes his second appearance mixing Bobby & Steve Feat Pete Simpson ‘In My Heart’ to perfection. Long-time Sushi favourite Dennis Ferrer’s ‘Church Lady’ and Recloose’s ‘Dust’ keep the yearning vocals and blissful beats rolling until Brand New Heavies make a more than welcome Stereo Sushi return, replete with N’dea Davenport back in the vocalists berth for I Don’t Know Why (I Love You) which gets an adroit retouch from Kenny Dope. Proceedings are wrapped up by the legendary Masters At Work whose ‘Voices’ provides a fitting close to another masterful Stereo Sushi outing.
