Details: If the weather isn’t giving you any clues, the best way of guaranteeing that summer is finally here is the arrival of Hed Kandi’s The Mix: Summer 2008. The very essence of sunshine vibes refined into a seamlessly mixed three-disc extravaganza, it covers every aspect of the Kandi dance-floor experience. As the heart and soul of Hed Kandi’s output, ‘The Mix: Summer 2008’ collects together the different flavours of Twisted Disco, Disco Kandi and Disco Heaven for the ultimate Kandi party.
Part one, Twisted Disco slips into gear with Adele’s ubiquitous ‘Cold Shoulder’ which gets additional heavy beats and sub bass action courtesy of an Out of Office remix that sidles into a Dub mix of ‘The One’ from Sharam who keeps the pop piquancy at maximum with some devilish Daniel Bedingfield sampling. One of dance music’s all time greats, De’Lacey’s ‘Hideaway’, gets a Cederic Gervais rubdown as team Kandi throw down a twisting and turning mix that features a litany of classics with the likes of Happy Clappers as retooled by Vandalism - who make no less than three appearances on disc one taking on Chicken Lips’ ‘Do It Proper’ and with their own ‘Smash Disco’. Paul Johnson’s ‘Get Down’ gets refurbed by Laidback Luke, Norman Cook in his Mighty Dub Katz guise supplies ‘Just Another Groove’ for Tocadisco to slice, as Erick Morillo and Little Louie Vega AKA Lil Mo Ying Yang have their timeless ‘Reach’ madeover by TV Rocks and Herve featuring Plastic Little, DONS & DBN & Italian upstarts Spit deliver some delicious dance-floor manoeuvres to round off part one.
Warren Clarke steps to the fore at the start of CD2, giving a funky disco sheen to this year’s comeback kings, Utah Saints, Therese gets busy on mic for The Mac Project’s ‘Another Love’ and the ‘Reach Up’ sampling ‘Watch Out’ from Alex Gaudino signal a more uplifting zest to Disco Kandi’s outing on The Mix Summer 2008. A bang up to date version of Haji and Emanuel’s ‘Take Me Away’ a Stonebridge remix of ‘Fudge’ by Fruitcake featuring Ann Yung, Deepest Blue, Sweet Mercey featuring the one and only Rowetta and Mobin Master’s retake of ‘Show Me Love’ featuring Robin S herself ensure that the blissful party atmosphere reaches fever pitch as Stonebridge returns with ‘Close To Heaven’ and Hott 22 featuring Bonnie Bailey’s ‘No Promises’ brings the Disco Kandi disc to a climactic end.
Last but certainly not least, the Kandi crew unleashes Disco Heaven as the final part of The Mix: Summer 2008. Throwing themselves headlong into the elysian beats, Hed Kandi drop a rapturous set of crowd pleasers from the likes of Todd Terry Allstars whose ‘Get Down’ features heavyweight action from Kenny Dope, DJ Sneak, Terry Hunter and Tara McDonald plus there’s celestial appearances from Freemasons featuring the much admired Katherine Ellis, Ricki Lee, C&C Family, a welcome return to the Hed Kandi fold for the one and only Ron Carroll, as remixed by Warren Clarke who gives his all appearing on another remix for September as well as presenting Jonni Black and Shena with ‘Bitch Is Black’. The angelic mix draws to a close with Aaron Perez’s Sinister Subconscious, segueing into Shapeshifters ‘Treadstone’.
Throwing a party like only they can Hed Kandi The Mix: Summer 2008 is a seamless glimpse into a deliciously decadent world. |
