Details: A new year signals a new Hed Kandi offering and one of their coolest, chicest, chilled out releases in the collection; Nu Cool is a master class in laid back, après-ski, soulful, hazy laziness with enough funk to keep it in the Kandi family. The perfect slope-side companion or winter antidote – it’s a must for any ardent Kandi aficionado.

Set to whet the broader musical appetite of Hed Kandi fans around the world, CD1 is a masterstroke in downtempo excellence, and kicks off with Bugz in The Attic’s brilliantly reworked version of 80s soul–disco classic ‘Don’t Stop The Music’; it meanders through some effortlessly funky cuts from favourites Basement Jaxx and Loose Cannons before delivering Andy Caldwell’s sublime and sentimental ‘Warrior’ and Amp Fiddler’s fluently funky groove ‘Ridin’. Reel People provide another highlight with ‘You Used To Hold Me So Tight’ and DJ T takes the funkometer to a new level with his bouncy, bass heavy ‘Funk On You’; followed closely by the hauntingly melodic ‘Discipolis’ from Lifelike & Kris Menace. Adding the frosted cherry to CD1 is Cicada’s wicked shoulder shaking, disco fuelled finale ‘Electric Blue’.

Jose Gonzalez’s dreamy and hugely successful ‘Heartbeats’ kicks off CD 2 with that perfect fireside glow. Frou Frou’s breathlessly cute ‘Breathe In’ keeps things smooth whilst Ninja Tune’s One Self give us laid back hip hop perfection with scratchy samples, 70s rock guitar licks and Isaac Hayes funk in ‘Bluebird’. Queen of Cool Shirley Bassey teams up with Kenny Dope for a sassy version of the Door’s classic ‘Light My Fire, whilst The Turboman’s ‘On The Slide’ is a must have with its sexy vocals from Becci, funky bassline and twinkling pianos. Crazy P drop their super smooth, super slinky ‘Can’t Get Down’, which, with its languid vocals and glossy rhythms, is irresistible. Pepe Deluxe’s ‘Cruel Youth’ adds further kudos to a stunning album, with Chungking’s sensual, hypnotic and elegantly cool ‘Voodoo ’completing this superb down beat offering.

Nu Cool showcases Hed Kandi’s sassier side and epitomises laidback confidence with creditability and style. It has earned a reputation as the more laid back Kandi chronicle, and this one won’t disappoint. With some wistfully wonderful jazz, soul, breakbeat and electro tracks, Nu Cool is a blissfully chilled out journey through downbeat sounds. This is the prefect sound track to the winter months, ideal for sipping champagne at your nearest Ski club or lounge bar or kicking back in front of a log fire.
