Details: OrtzRoka stride further into 2007 with their first EP release on the band’s new label, Verk. The ‘Bulb Fuel EP’ is a clear statement of intent across 3 outstanding original productions, delivering their new electronic sound recently heard in their remix for NME faves Peter, Bjorn & John, which picked up support from the likes of Erol Alkan, Rob Da Bank, Fluokids, Lindstrom and People Are Germs.

As influenced by independent film, Warhol, Noam Chomsky, and Impressionism as they are by Detroit techno, Derrick May, German minimal, and illegal raves, they make for an interesting proposition. Standing head and shoulders above the current crop of 303-obsessed new breeders, they’re not content with just aiming their music at the dancefloor, OrtzRoka are diverging into the kind of intelligent British electronica last heard of via the likes of Orbital and Aphex Twin - but IDM plagiarists they are not. Hence, each release will now contain a club-friendly version, alongside a mix more suited for those ‘cerebral’ moments.

Their debut release, ‘T2’, received accolades from the specialist press and DJs such as Nic Fancuilli, Sasha, Paul and Funk ‘D’Void. Factor in recent remixes for the likes of Peter Bjorn & John, Bloc Party, Planet Funk and Rui Da Silva, and they’ve been propelled into a burgeoning music career that should see them elevated far beyond their current ‘future star’ status. This summer will see the beginning of their first live tour - a must for anyone with any serious interest in electronica.

First up on the ‘Bulb Fuel EP’, is the intelligent techno of ‘Bulb Fuel’, a dischordant delight of minor-key chords and the aural equivalent of an acid-trip that’s reached tipping point. ‘Lo Fuel’ is a more sedate affair, but none-the-less beautifully constructed. Epic in the best sense of the word, it flows from the speakers like the love-theme to an Isaac Asimov novel. The synapse-tweaking ‘Bird Flew’ closes the package, a militantly percussive track underpinned by a nagging synth-line that build collectively into a hypnotic, tripped out groove.
