Details: Since 2001, Don Cash has been writing, producing songs and releasing them on his Toronto-based Stereo Eagle label. Along the way he has earned many friends and admirers, including The Fader magazine and punk-funk luminaries LCD Soundsystem. In 2006, he released the electro-rap-rock masterpiece “On The Bus” to widespread critical acclaim and Headman signed him on his label Relish Recordings straight after a first listening. His two massive electro jams "Don't Crash" and "Baby's Rad" were featured on both the Relish Compilation EP and the double-disc Relish Compilation CD mixed by Headman himself.
This guest appearance was just a teaser, the Canadian whiz kid comes back with his debut release on Relish, “Disco Wreck”, where he breaks all the boundaries between the music genres with his explosive blend of electro, rock n’ roll and rap. With this first E.P. on Relish Recordings, Don Cash reveals all his talent as a musician, songwriter, singer and rapper along with his energy and his rock n’ roll attitude.
On “Disco Wreck”, Cash’s acute shouts at the end of every verse, his simplistic use of percussion and the driving punk-funk bassline develop into a great tune that lingers in the mind.
Headman liked it so much that he decided to rework Disco Wreck himself. He added his personal touch to make it accessible to the post punk dancefloors but without losing Cash’s new wave style.
“Hey There” on the flip is a nice piece of slo-mo electro funk, where Cash plays it cool in a unique crooner/rapper style. Last but not least, the Canadian Dirty 30 gives a strong remix treatment to Don’t Crash with slick cuts and clever breaks, a real electro-shock that will please all the fans of Ed Bangers records and the likes. |
