Details: King Roc is a “purveyor of such laid back electro that somehow still retains an element that makes you want to go nuts.” His ‘Flicker’ EP is a true refection of this statement; consisting of 4 outstanding tracks (‘Flicker’, ‘Carbon’, ‘Flux’ and ‘Kita Mono’) that encapsulate the current climate of cool. This EP is going to scorch the dancefloors this summer.
Love Minus Zero, headed up by Tom Neville is a launch pad for future stars of the electronic age, and who better to showcase this, than King Roc.
First on the EP is the main track ‘Flicker’; a pumping, driving number that creeps into your system and gets your head nodding and those feet moving. King Roc’s strength is his ability to introduce unique, yet relative, lines within each segment of ‘Flicker’. Its sheer simplicity and subtle nuances creep up on you… loaded with ominous synths resonating throughout which coupled the lashing bassline whips you into a frenzy. Expect to hear this at the likes of DC10 and Space in the early hours of the morning. This is a seriously sexy track!!
We then move on to ‘Carbon’ which is much deeper than its predecessor. This is a heavy bass-laden track with plucky, bleapy sounds that get you all revved up. Quite jackin’ in elements and techy to the core this is just straight down and dirty. Definitely one for you House Heads out there.
‘Flux’ sweeps over you with blissed-out deep house beats with magnificent swoosh’s with an underlying bassline that knocks you for six! The track fluctuates between a sense of foreboding and beautiful orchestral-tinged electro. This tracks makes you wish you were in a little underground club at 5am; moving your dance weary bones until you can’t take it anymore. A truly evocative track that has soul, a wicked bassline and is a guaranteed hit.
‘Kita Mono’ will only be included on the download package so make full use of it while you have it exclusively!! This is a very cool track that starts off softly but then the bass kicks in the whole mood changes. Really gradual stabbing synths that become more and more frantic as it chugs along in true King Roc style. It gets tougher and more aggressive as it goes on and was definitely written “to make you shake your hole in a club” says Roc. This is relentless!!
Although all 4 tracks are playfully different, King Roc has one thing that is consistent throughout the EP; no matter where you are or what you are doing, it will make you feel like you’d rather be in a club…
It’s been a busy couple of years for Martin Dawson aka King Roc. In the last few months he has been heavily involved with remixes for artists such as Future Sound Of London, Junkie XL and New Order along with DJing all over the world from Asia, Russia, Australia and Europe with forthcoming tours in South America and Canada coming up!! Plus his usual stint at the infamous after-party Breakfast @ The Egg in London.
The King of Roc has been working furiously in the studio concentrating on an artist album that we are very excited about plus collaborating with Giles Smith (Secret Sundaze) under the guise of ‘Two Armadillo’s’ which is sure to produce some electrifying results.
