Details: Diverted have rapidly established themselves as one of the most innovative electronic acts around through their live monthly residency at Ali B’s long running Air night where they have been the house band since early 2007, playing alongside the likes of Minuit, Bastila and The London Breakbeat Orchestra.
Their latest single has already been picking up support from the likes of The Plump DJs, Lee Coombs and Meat Katie. The club bruiser, ‘Frederick’, and the lush down-tempo ‘Summer Hiding’ will be available for general release in early 2008 through Air Recordings and is a taster of what to expect on Diverted’s forthcoming debut album, due for release in autumn 2008.
At Diverted’s core are mid twenty year olds Stephen Baxter and Lee Richardson. Between them they have been responsible for a number of releases across labels such as TCR, Solokov Sounds and Ali B’s Air Recordings label that’s gained them huge support amongst scene leaders. Meanwhile, their own Diverted Traffic label that they run from the basement of their quirky retro studio in rural Hertfordshire has been responsible for helping to establish artists such as Mr No Hands, Tom Tonic and Dekoy.
With each live show, Diverted’s sound has constantly evolved through the regular addition of new musicians and vocalists. Songs are often written and then road tested in front of the loyal Air crowd on the same day, before ultimately being recorded and put on the shortlist for their forthcoming album. This unique experimental approach to writing has seen Diverted’s sound compared to the likes of Goose and The Bays.
Alongside guest appearances on Annie Nightingale’s Radio 1 Show and Jay Cunning’s Kiss 100 show, Diverted also host their own regular slot on NSB Radio. They have also toured extensively across countries including Australia, Spain, Russia and Hungary. 2008 will see them take the whole band on the road with dates at some of the UK’s biggest festivals already confirmed. |
