Creamfields 2007 - “The Best One Yet”: 29.08.07

The UK’s favourite dance festival Creamfields took place on Saturday, attracting over 40,000 festival goers to Daresbury, Cheshire. And it was evident that now in its 2nd year, Creamfields has truly made Daresbury its home. Despite most festivals suffering from one of the wettest summers in history, it seems their prayers were answered over the weekend, with the rain holding off and the sun shining throughout the day. Dance lovers travelled from all corners of the UK and beyond, with many taking advantage of low cost flights from Europe and the events close proximity to Manchester & Liverpool Airports, resulting in an increase in international ticket sales.

The Chemical Brothers closed out the main stage with one of the finest performances in Creamfields history, performing hit after hit from the bands repertoire. Groove Armada performed as the sun went down some classic summertime tracks from their highly acclaimed new album. Man of the moment brit born Mark was one of the many highlights of the day, living up to all expectation performing live on the main stage and DJ’ing to a packed out audience in the Beatdown Arena. Carl Cox’ highly anticipated return to the 10,000 capacity Cream Arena still had thousands queuing to get in but undeterred still enjoyed the music from the outside.

Some of the northwest’s glitteratti turned out in full including Colleen McLoughlin who was there with a bevvy of friends to search for the best dressed girl & boy, which she presented with a bottle of champagne, and was later spotted enjoying the Hed Kandi sounds in the Hospitality Arena. Other celebs spotted included Hollyoaks Jennifer Biddell, Atomic Kittens Natasha Hamilton and fiancée Rihad looking very loved up, most of the Shameless cast, some dance loving cast members from Corononation Street and Liverpool’s own Alexei Sayle reliving his youth!

The security improvements put in place this year paid off with metal detectors at each of the entrances, seizing numerous bladed items at the search points outside the venue. The increased policing, lighting and security throughout the site also seemed to have been well received by festival goers. Overall there were no major incidents and only 22 people receiving street cautions mainly for drugs offences.

James Barton, Cream CEO, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the overall operation of this year’s Creamfields. We are especially happy that the increased levels of security and policing prevented any major incidents and didn’t stop a very good natured crowd having a good time. We would like to thank all the agencies involved for helping this year’s show be one of the best to date.”

Inspector Paul Carroll from Cheshire Police, who was leading this year's planning team, said: “We are very satisfied with the policing operation for Creamfields. It achieved what we set out to do, which was to minimise any disruption to local residents and to ensure that visitors enjoyed the festival safely. We would like to thank the organisers, festival goers and local residents for their cooperation."

The atmosphere was fun and relaxed with people arriving to the event with the sole purpose to have a great time, and judging by the smiles on their faces on the way out, this is exactly what they had.
