The Garden Petrcane Launches A Festival Season In Croatia!: 18.03.09 |
| In what it is thought is a world’s first, after several years of hard toil and graft, of dreaming and planning, of striving to create something truly unique upon the dazzling, shimmering shoreline of the azure Adriatic. |
The Garden Festival weekender has already evolved into one of the most respected and revered events of its kind, with a ethos fashioned around a strictly intimate and family orientated vibe, a pace as fast or as slow as you want it and programming a diverse roster of music from noon until sunrise. Nestled on a narrow peninsular jutting into those seductive waters, the site is strictly limited to 2,000 people, is replete with daily Argonaughty Boat Parties and club sessions in the retro-tastic Barbarellas Discotheque and attracts sun and fun seekers from all over Europe for a resounding antidote to the more prosaic mainstream, derivative and oversold options.
But that’s not all. What started in 2008 as a test run is now developed into a full blown festival season programme: The Garden Petrcane is launching with a double weekend whammy from the home-grown and original Garden Festival across the first two weekends in July, followed by a series of events throughout the summer hosted by some of the best collectives, ensembles and clubs nights in the northern hemisphere. It is what the guys in Croatia have long been planning and now everything comes fully into spectacular fruition and it appears there is nothing else quite like the concept of a festival season!
“It’s been a lot of hard work to build up The Garden Festival to where it is now,” Nick Colgan, one of the Garden Petrcane’s directors explains. “Eddie, Gail, Charlotte and myself always had an eventual vision where we would use the site to host other weekend festivals. We have worked with so many great people - and also in the UK before we moved out here to live - that we just knew once we had everything in place there would be interest. And many of our friends who promote, once they came out here and saw the place they all fell in love with it and that really got the ball rolling and gave our plans real momentum. And here we are now. I am not entirely sure of this, but I don’t think there’s a festival season anywhere else in the world. We are all about doing individual and unique projects so it kind of felt right to do it this way!”
One of the key components has been for each weekend to be musically diverse, offering a wide spectrum of choice for those who might want to take in dub, jazz, soul or electronica, but all of them hosted on The Garden Petrcane’s stunning site, bathed in sizzling sun and all of the other trappings the area provides to not only provide a long weekend of aural action, but to open up the whole Croatian region too for those wanting to travel around too - something which is encouraged for Petrcane is close to many beautiful islands, national parks and secluded stretched of shoreline running north and south.
With plentiful flight options from around the UK, Croatia and The Garden Petrcane are easily accessible throughout the summer – more info can be found on the websites. There are also countless accommodation options available, fine eateries and bars to indulge in, and so much to see and do in what is a truly stunning location along the Croatian coast, with many adventures waiting to be found in national parks, secluded islands and bustling historical cities. And all of this on top of a choice of fantastic weekend festivals
“We’re really happy with who has come onboard this year. There are a couple more weekends TBC as well, and we hope to have them wrapped up in the next couple of weeks, and we all really feel this summer is shaping up to be something really special.”
